Whitey Morgan Brings Big Country Soul to Ventura

When Whitey plugs in his Telecaster and walks out on stage to meet the band, a hard hitting loud outlaw country show is underway.

Ventura Music Hall in California was the third stop on the summer tour for Flint Michigan modern day outlaw Whitey Morgan & The 78s with fans eagerly waiting for a night full of hits that span over 15 years. This venue has got a great view from all areas where you can enjoy drinks at the tables along the sides or get right up in front of the stage. As the lights go dark and the into plays the cowboys and cowgirls in the crowd as are pumped up and the band hits it of with “Me and the Whiskey” then into “Buick City” and followed with “Low Down on The Backstreets” for the first three. All members of the band were on point; throughout the night the bass player could be seen rocking out the whole night. Whitey Morgan moved around interacting with the crowd and with his drummer and steel guitar player often within the performance. Drummer Eric was just banging away on his kit all night.

We got to hear the band cover Social Distortion “Prison Bound” and they defiantly rocked it. Among in the middle of the set Whitey performed his newest single release “Somewhere Along the Way” and it seems to be getting some attention as fans sang along. Another relatively new song from last year “Let Me Roll” was in the mix of hits.  As the night got closer to the end but never settled down “I’m On Fire,” “Where Do You Want It?” and “Just Got Paid” close out the set then the band walks off into the darkness. Only for them to return but this time Whitey Morgan has put away his iconic signature Fender Telecaster.

Returning with a beautiful Gibson Les Paul, he came out to play a couple more songs before ending the set with a favorite of mine, “Sinner.” As I stated in the beginning, the tour is just getting going so if you’re looking for a good real country show or just want to go add another Whitey Morgan & The 78s show to your concert list as I did myself. Go snag up some tickets through on those cowboy boots and hat and enjoy the sound of some live country music.
