Interview: How LORE Is Building a World of Musical Storytelling Through ‘The Frog’

LORE isn’t just another anonymous band — they’re a whole world built on storytelling, emotion, and mystery. Conceived as a universe rather than a traditional music project, LORE merges cinematic soundscapes with animated visuals to create an immersive myth that makes feel alive. Fronted by the masked figure known as The Frog, anonymity serves as a key creative tool, allowing listeners to focus on the narrative instead of the individual behind it.

Their debut EP Prologue explores transformation, memory, and longing through sound and imagery that evolve hand-in-hand. Influenced by post-hardcore’s grit and rawness, but reimagined through lo-fi, synthwave, and experimental textures, LORE is carving out a space where collaboration, symbolism, and boundless imagination collide — an introduction to a universe that’s only just beginning to unfold. We were able to chat with the band to learn more about their journey: how they started, where they’re headed and everything along the path.

What led to the creation of LORE and how did The Frog decide to make anonymity a central part of the project?

LORE started as an idea to merge storytelling and emotion into one universe. Something that felt bigger than just a band. We’d been part of projects where the music stood on its own, but we wanted to build a world. The Frog’s anonymity came from the idea that LORE shouldn’t belong to a single face or ego, it’s a vessel for the stories. The mask became a way to shift focus entirely to the narrative, the visuals, and the feelings that come from them.

Your debut EP, Prologue, introduces listeners to LORE’s world. How did you approach the narrative and thematic journey across the EP’s tracks?

We treated ‘Prologue’ like the opening chapter of a book every song represents. There’s a sense of discovery, longing, and transformation woven through the tracks. We wanted listeners to feel like they were stepping into a dream that slowly reveals itself the deeper you go.

What inspired the choice to use animation as a storytelling tool?

Animation lets us build worlds that don’t exist yet, it’s limitless. The music already lives in a surreal emotional space, so pairing it with animation gave us freedom to show that visually without boundaries. It also ties into the idea of LORE being a myth, something between fiction and reality. Animation gives the universe texture, color, and motion in a way live action can’t.

How does your collaborative process work when developing both music and animated visuals? Do the songs shape the visuals or vice versa?

It kind of goes both ways. Sometimes a song inspires a visual, like a single lyric that becomes an entire scene. Other times, a sketch or concept drawing will spark an emotion that evolves into a track. We’ll often bounce ideas between music and animation until they feel like they’re telling the same story. The key is that neither side leads, they grow together.

With LORE’s roots in post-hardcore and your past involvement in cult-followed bands, how do those influences emerge in this project?

Post-hardcore taught us to be emotionally honest to create without fear of being too raw or too strange. That ethos is still alive in LORE, just wrapped in a new sonic language. You can hear the energy, dynamics, and emotional weight from that world, but now it’s blended with lo-fi textures, synthwave atmospheres, and cinematic storytelling. It’s the same spirit, just evolved.

What was the experience like working with guest artists like Isaac Wilson and Properties of Nature? How did those collaborations come about?

Each collaboration came from genuine connection and mutual respect. We’ve admired what Isaac and Properties of Nature bring to their own projects, with the same willingness to push boundaries and blur genres. We reached out with a concept, and they immediately understood what we were trying to build. It never felt like a “feature,” but more like inviting another voice into the story.

How do those collaborations help shape the sound and story of your recent EP release, Prologue?

They helped expand the world. Isaac brought this emotional gravity that made the story feel more human, while Properties of Nature added a sense of chaos and wonder. Each guest introduced a new perspective within the LORE universe  like different characters crossing paths in the same myth.

Are there any easter eggs in the music videos for “Senpai,” “Starseeker,” and “Nightwere Club?”

Absolutely. Every video contains hidden symbols and references to future chapters, small visual clues that tie into characters and events that haven’t been revealed yet. Some are color-based, others are tied to recurring objects or patterns. The fun part is that most of them won’t make full sense until later in the story. (Shout out to the amazing team over at Moon x blimp they really brought our whole world building/storytelling elements to the next level!)

What recurring ideas or lyrical themes did the two of you gravitate to when writing Prologue?

Transformation, longing, and memory. We kept coming back to the idea of identity, who you are before and after loss, love, or self-realization. There’s also a quiet undercurrent of escapism: wanting to disappear into another world but realizing that world might reflect you back.

Prologue is described as only the beginning. Without spoiling your future plans, can you share what excites you the most about the next chapter of LORE?

We’re excited to go deeper into the world we’ve only hinted at. ‘Prologue’ set the foundation; the next chapter will start connecting the dots between characters, places, and events. The sound will evolve too; it’ll be darker, more cinematic, but still deeply emotional. What excites us most is that LORE’s story is just starting to breathe and every new release expands the myth a little further.

                      MORE ABOUT LORE:

LORE is a boundary-pushing musical project formed in early 2025, forged entirely through online collaboration. United by their roots in post-hardcore and a deep passion for storytelling, the band have quickly built a powerful creative bond that transcends distance.
Shaped by their years in two cult-followed bands, LORE’s founders carry forward an ethos of community, connection, and inclusivity as they enter the era of the band’s debut EP, Prologue.

Their mission is simple, but vital: to tell unforgettable stories through music while cultivating a space with no gatekeeping, and no ego. Just honest art and love for the craft. LORE isn’t just about sound, but about meaning. It’s music for those who want to feel, to belong, and to find something deeper within the noise.
