Kami Kehoe is on an ever-ascending swing — 2025 saw the release of her EP KANDY, her magnetic performance at Warped Tour and her joining the likes of Seether, Daughtry and P.O.D. throughout the US on their fall tour. The LA-based, Vegas-raised, artist seems to have no need for rest and just released her own cover of Kings Of Leon’s “Sex On Fire” that she teased on tour last year.

Kami Kehoe is only 22, but age is just a number when you’ve been playing the drums since you were 3 years old. She’s played in a band with her sisters until the age of 16, when the trio disbanded and she started pursuing her solo career as a singer and a drummer. Her vast musical background shows in the ease with which she changes her styles. Her debut solo record, Drama Queen (2023), blended in alternative pop with punk rock anthems, R&B and jazzy tones. In her second release, KANDY,  Kehoe’s velvety vocals complement her beautiful heavy drumming, inspired by Motley Crue’s Tommy Lee, and her new atmospheric alt-rock sound.

It’s hard to believe that “Sex On Fire,” from the Kings Of Leon record Only By The Night turns 18 this year and it still sounds so modern. Covering such a generational hymn is never easy, and Kehoe decided to make it unapologetically her own. Her own rendition is much darker than the original: gritty and crunchy guitars are backed by her own relentless drumming just as her sultry vocals sing a familiar melody into unknown territories. If this release signals Kami Kehoe’s intentions for 2026, we should better expect something big, perhaps starting from her headline show at The Roxy Theatre in LA on February 19th (click here for tickets). Definitely not one to miss out on!
