The pop-punk heroes of Yellowcard and Good Charlotte teamed up for a new (and improved) feature version of the song “Bedroom Posters,” originally included on Yellowcard’s 2025 record Better Days. The collaboration comes ahead of their joint tour across Australia and New Zealand in February. Both bands made a huge comeback in 2025, with their previous records released in 2016 (Yellowcard’s self-titled) and 2018 (Good Charlotte’s Generation Rx).
Ahead of the music video release, Joel Madden and Ryan Key went live on VEEPS to do a Q&A about their return to music and their collaborative project. In the conversation, they reflect on the past, ‘breaking up’ the bands and now both better than ever. While nostalgia plays a big part in the song, going back to the days where we all had posters of bands like Yellowcard and Good Charlotte plastered on our walls, they both agree they wouldn’t want to go back to their “Lifestyle of the Rich and Famous” and “Ocean Avenue” days. They’ve come a long way since then, and part of their longevity is thanks to them not being stuck in the past and looking forward with each step they take, while staying true to their roots.
Yellowcard’s Ryan Key directed the music video for “Bedroom Posters,” his first time directing a music video as well. They pay homage to the bedrooms where we got to listen to our favorite bands for the first time, the room around them changing into different poster-clad bedrooms during the video. There’s a bunch of references to 90s music and easter eggs in each miniature set, including a poster of Ryan Key’s high school band’s show in Jacksonville next to Spice Girls, Blink-182 and Green Day posters. I already found myself watching the video multiple times, just like I used to do for the earlier videos of the two bands, and those of similar bands of the 2000s, to try to spot more of the posters in all the different rooms.
Most of the fans of both bands probably got to know them through the earlier mentioned songs they made in the early-aughts. I had posters of both Good Charlotte and Yellowcard practically next to each other on my own walls, so this collaboration is a dream come true for pop-punk fans like me. I’m even a little surprised they never worked together before, as their sounds fit together so well. Listening to it brings you right back to your teens, filled with the memories of being excited about your favorite bands dropping new music videos and listening to it non-stop after. The same excitement came over me in anticipation of this song and accompanying music video, and it did not disappoint in the slightest.
The distinct Yellowcard sound is still there, just more matured, and elevated by adding the vocals of Good Charlotte’s Joel Madden to the song. These two voices are so distinctly tied to my youth, it’s hard to not be swept away by the nostalgia of it all. The artists obviously know this as well, heavily leaning into it with the 90s/2000s aesthetic in the visuals. The bedroom posters are long gone now, but we can still pretend life’s still as simple as it was back then, just for a couple of minutes.
To imagine being back in your teen bedroom, listening to your favorite bands and watching music videos on MTV like we did in the good old days, watch the music video here:
