Metalcore has exploded globally since the early 2000s, creating heavier, stranger, and even more polished and refined versions of itself. For longtime fans of the genre, few names evoke as much nostalgia and hold such legendary status as the name Attack Attack! With their last full length album released in 2012 and a reformation in 2021, Attack Attack! II welcomes the legendary band back into the scene. With Attack Attack! II set to be released on August 8th via Oxide records, the return of Attack Attack feels timely with how big metalcore has become since their departure.
Attack Attack! II feels like the band never left. Every song spanning this album contains a fast, gritty energy that drives every track — each one carrying its own form of aggression and pacing. While it’s no surprise this album spoils us with chunky, satisfying breakdowns — this is Attack Attack we’re talking about. Nostalgia might lead one to anticipate a techno-heavy disco-dance floor, groovy sound. Instead, one is greeted with a tasteful blend of electronic elements that actually enhance the soundscape and help paint the bigger picture. This demonstrates maturity in Attack Attack’s approach to a crucial aspect of their identity and with a balance of the modern metalcore sound, supported by singable, stadium ready choruses, fans will be treated to the most polished and raw Attack Attack yet.
There’s a lot to love across Attack Attack! II, but “Karmageddon” stands out as a perfect representation of the album’s high-octane energy. “ONE HIT WONDER” and “I complain on r/metalcore” showcase the bands ability to bend the genre like they’ve always been known to. A special standout is “Dance!,” which features none other than Will Ramos of Lorna Shore. Personal favorites like “Walk on Water” and “Jump Jump!” show the band at their best, seamlessly shifting between the fast, punchy riffs and explosive choruses with ease.
Attack Attack! II is both a reinvention and reintroduction — one that honors the legacy behind a name while pushing new territory. This album is a great return for long-time fans, a powerful introduction for new fans, and a welcome surprise for the millennial “old heads” who thought that they couldn’t hit the “crabcore” anymore. Attack Attack! is back and they are sharper than ever before. Attack Attack! kicks off the “One Hit Wonder” tour with Savage Hands and Versus Me this August!
