GIRLI brought her North American tour to Chicago’s Subterranean on June 18, delivering exactly the kind of high-energy, unapologetic performance fans have come to expect. Touring behind her latest album, It’s just my opinion, recently released back in May, GIRLI packed the intimate venue with fans ready to sing along from start to finish. Opening the night was tiLLie, whose mix of pop-punk attitude and infectious energy quickly won over the crowd and set the tone for the evening.
Once GIRLI hit the stage, the room EXPLODED. The lighting and production were simple but effective, letting the focus stay on the music. Fans screamed every word back during favorites like “Matriarchy” and “Nothing Hurts Like a Girl,” while the newer songs fit seamlessly into the set. Between songs, GIRLI’s personality and takes on today’s events shined through, making the packed room feel more like a gathering of friends than a typical concert.
The night ended with one final burst of energy and a loud ovation from the Chicago crowd. With a few more tour dates in the US before she sets sail to Europe, fans who haven’t caught the show yet should make a point to. My favorite part was how much fun everyone seemed to be having from the stage to the back of the room and how open and welcoming she was to all… the energy never let up.
