Overpass Make Amsterdam Feel a Little Less Lonely

It’s September, which means concert season is back in full swing. The weather is slowly getting colder and moodier, which is the perfect setting to head on over to your nearest concert from overpass. The band from Birmingham, England headed down to Tolhuistuin in Amsterdam. After a short ferry ride from the central station, you walked straight into the venue, which was slowly filling up.

Opening up this evening was FLETCHR FLETCHR, who also came over from the UK. They started just 30 minutes after doors opened, when the venue was not really filled yet. Throughout their set they gained more of a crowd, and anyone that did not show up early enough to catch their set definitely missed out. A better pairing of support and headline could not be found, as FLETCHR FLETCHR their music was a perfect fit. The same indie rock vibes, and great stage energy. With songs such as “Passenger,” “Streetlights,” and “Blink Of An Eye” they got the crowd happily dancing along. They ended their set with “Life,” which was written after lead vocalist Rohan Fletcher’s dad sadly passed away. The song, and band name, was therefore dedicated to Matthew Fletcher.

In the short 30 minute break between sets the venue got fuller by the minute, ending up pretty full when it was finally time for overpass. They started their set with “Union Station,” which set the tone for the rest of the night. The fans were dancing, while screaming the lyrics. The set included a good mix of more upbeat songs and some slow songs, giving the fans time to regain energy and just enjoy a more calm moment in the set. For “Bonnie & Clyde Pt. 2,” the band left the stage, leaving just frontman Max Newbold on stage with a spotlight on him. The set mostly consisted of songs from their latest release, Elsewhere, Always, which is also the reason for this tour. The album just came out in June, but that was plenty of time for the fans to get familiar with the songs and lyrics. They also added some older songs to their set, including “3AM,” “Like No Other” and “Slow.”

While the band had done a headline show in Utrecht last year, this was their first headline show in Amsterdam. Newbold thanked the crowd for coming and hoped to see them again soon. He then dedicated the next song, “Beautiful,” to the crowd of tonight. The end of the show was coming closer, with “Take It Or Leave It” making the crowd go crazy again, jumping and dancing. overpass did not do an encore, so when they said they would play their last song, it actually was. Choosing “Is This Real?” to close their set with was an amazing choice, bringing up the energy to an all time high one last time.
