LØLØ Brings Infectious Girl Power to Montreal's Foufounes Électriques

A packed Foufounes Électriques received LØLØ on her God Forbid a Girl Goes on Tour! headlining run; accompanied by two exciting opening acts, the singer-songwriter made her second visit within a month to the Montreal area. Only 4 weeks ago she took the Ghost Stage at the Montreal stop of the Vans Warped Tour; today she came back in full force to give her fans a full setlist show.

Before the modern punk-rock princess took the stage, Dawson Gamble was first in line to warm up the crowd. It was a wonderful discovery and an instant addition to my playlists, the Torontian charmed the audience from the very first chord of the opening song. The act that I can’t wait to see headline, played a short but sweet 6 song setlist, just enough to leave the crowd wanting more. After closing the set with the song “French Girls,” the singer made his way to his merch booth, welcomed new fans, signed cds and took pictures with them.

The second opener was Con The Artist, introduced by his very own creation, Con-puter; a recorded robotic voice that claims to be his personal backing band. On stage, just Connor and his drummer, played along a backing track that included all other instruments. His indie-rock filled setlist was a treat, filling the room with dreamy vibes like the ones from his current radio hit “Where’s Your Girlfriend.”

It was finally time, lights went out, musicians stepped on stage, followed by the Canadian headliner LØLØ. Wearing her signature Converse, thigh high socks, and pleated mini-skirt, the singer-songwriter kicked off the evening with fan favorite tracks “the devil wears converse” and “pretty little wreck.” For the song “debbie downer,” the frontwoman selected a lucky girl from the crowd to come on stage and sing the final chorus with her, and handed out pom-poms to the crowd to wave in the air, fitting the cheerleader atmosphere set by the song.

The night felt packed with music, but LØLØ took any chance possible between songs to either talk to the audience, or crack a quick joke. She portrayed the character of an awkward girl so well, making each song feel like part of her universe; a full story told through every interaction, every verse, and her pre-recorded diary entries. Half way through the set, we welcomed Con The Artist back on stage to help LØLØ sing a cover of Plain White T’s signature song “Hey There Delilah” she gave it a particular twist, singing a verse from Delilah’s point of view.

The bubblegum pop punk didn’t stop there, the singer continued into songs “delusional darling,” “hurt less,” and “junkie.” After stepping away from the stage for a moment, LØLØ returned for an encore; just her and her guitar, she gave the crowd an acoustic rendition of “wish i was a robot,” my definite favorite moment of the evening. Lastly, she closed her 19-song setlist with “hot girls in hell,” saying goodbye to her Montreal fans once again, but her hometown Toronto is close by, so we all left Foufs hoping we see her again soon.
