LEAP Sells Out Their First Show in Haarlem, Netherlands

While it has just been six months since LEAP’s last tour in Europe, the band does not like sitting still and announced this spring run soon after. The band loves doing long runs, stopping in as many cities as possible. Last run The Netherlands got treated to three shows, this time around they decided to add one more, treating the country to four shows. This time around they decided to come to Haarlem’s Patronaat, which sold out pretty quickly.

For this run, none other than Hana Lili was welcomed onto the line-up for the mainland Europe dates. Just a short twenty minutes after doors, she and her band walked out onto the stage. Haarlem was just the second show of this tour, so everyone still had plenty of energy to give. Hana Lili started her set with “Ur Girlfriend’s a Lawyer,” followed by “Iconic.” For the latter she also played the electric guitar, which would make an appearance for some songs scattered throughout her set. After “No Better” it was time for a calmer moment, with her guitarist switching to an acoustic guitar for “Complicated.”

Between songs she thanked LEAP for bringing her along and telling the crowd they really need to get crazy for the next one, “Drowning,” which hasn’t been played live before. Before ending her set with “Sick of Myself,” she told the crowd if they wanted to say hi to her she would be hanging around merch after the show, as she promised the crowd she is not scary and would love to say hi. In the middle of the song she asked the crowd to split into two sides, making space for the people who want to mosh. After thanking the crowd one last time, she and her band left the stage.

Not much time had passed before LEAP’s intro sounded over the speakers, with the band walking out on stage one by one. The band consisting of vocalist Jack Balfour Scott, drummer Hector Cottam, guitarist Adam Mason and bassist Declan Brown has not been around for long, yet they have plenty of sold out shows under their belt. While The Netherlands isn’t a huge country, with usually one stop on a tour, the band seems to love playing here. This run started with four shows on Dutch grounds, with Haarlem being the second one. When “Over & Out” kicked in, the tone was set for the night. This would be an evening full of energy, both from the band as well as the crowd. The first mosh pit of their set started during the second song: “Play Dead.” Between songs Scott took his time to talk to the fans, providing plenty of fan interactions. During “One Million Pieces” Scott asked the crowd to get down, jumping up again when the chorus of the song kicked in again.

Back in October they released their latest album, Entropy, of which plenty of songs made their way onto the setlist. The next one to be played, “Sinking Feeling,” is one of the band’s favorites on the album. As the band has spent a lot of time on the road, they love to find something that’s special for each city, but when asked what was something very Haarlem specific the crowd did not really have an answer. Brown shared that he speaks Afrikaans, which in his words is almost like fucked up Dutch. He spoke a few sentences, testing if the crowd could understand him, which they mostly did. After this it was time for “Waste Your Love,” followed by “I Was Never There.” For the latter the band asked the crowd to dance to the song, which should be no problem since the energy has been going steady all night.

Between songs Scott thanked the crowd plenty of times for buying tickets and showing up to their shows, as they did not expect their first appearance in Haarlem to be a sold out show. Throughout the setlist plenty of mosh pits formed in the middle of the packed crowd. When asked if anyone had seen LEAP before, about half the crowd cheered, while it was the first time for the other half. Before leaving the stage for their encore the band asked the crowd if they could wait about 15 minutes after their set, as they would love to meet everyone and say hi at their merch stand. This was followed by “The Downfall” and “Energies,” after which they left the stage. Just a minute later the band walked out again to play the final two songs of the evening. The fans gave all their energy one last time during “Eclipse” and “Exit Signs.” Near the end Scott jumped down in the mosh pit, jumping around with the fans. giving them a close up experience they won’t forget anytime soon.

Their current run will go on until May 15th, with plenty of shows all throughout Europe. If you would like a high energy night out, LEAP should definitely be on your radar. Check out all dates and tickets here: https://leaptheband.com/pages/live
