Ashnikko Turns Tilburg into Her Playground

While she last had a show in The Netherlands last August, Ashnikko was back to bring her ‘Smoochies Tour’ to Poppodium 013 in Tilburg on February 1st. This tour is fully in the theme of her latest album: Smoochies, released last October. For this tour she brought along Amelia Moore to open up the show and warm up the crowd.

An hour after doors the venue was already filled up nicely with fans waiting for the show to start. Right on cue Amelia Moore walked out on stage, where a led sign with her name had been placed in the center. On stage with her were drummer Julian Lewis and guitarist Michael Vokes, who both looked like they were having a lot of fun. For “naked” the lights turned red, as Moore was getting sensual with her microphone stand. She also treated the crowd to a little snippet of Ariana Grande’s “7 rings,” asking where her Ariana stans are before singing it.

While walking around the city before the show Moore noticed all the people celebrating carnival, which told her this crowd was ready to party. Despite saying that, the next song was a slower one for which Moore took place behind the piano. She told the crowd about a bad break-up and telling them they are “too pretty to be crying over that ugly man” and dedicating her next song, “crybaby,” to the crybabies in the crowd. Some fans put their flash lights in the air, which was appreciated by Moore.

Moore wanted to make sure the crowd remembered her, repeating her name after almost every song. Later this year she is releasing her debut album and treated the fans to an unreleased song next: “city of angels.” She wrote this about her moving to LA back in 2020. After telling the crowd her social media handles she ended the show with “see through” and “spelling bee.” For the latter the crowd happily clapped along, surely warmed up by now.

While the schedule said Ashnikko would start at 10 PM, she was running a bit late. Over the speakers her voice could be heard, frantically looking for stuff and checking if she had everything in her purse before leaving. While searching her purse for her lipgloss, she found a tiny door, which led to her crawling through a tiny door on stage. She jumped right into “Sticky Fingers.” After finishing the song she looked around the venue, asking the crowd if they also came through the tiny door in her purse. A raspy voice was heard over the speakers, later revealed as her crow friend. While talking between songs she made use of her own lyrics, hinting to the next song on the setlist. She introduced “Working Bitch” by telling the crowd she “better get to work then.”

After the first two songs she took a little break to talk to the crowd. She asked the crowd to show her everyone’s hats they wore, and told them how she was feeling a bit sick tonight. Despite that she was still on stage, just noting how her voice had gotten raspy, hoping that it would sound sexy. A fan at the front then shouted “you are sexy either way.” Ashnikko also talked about her latest album, Smoochies, saying it’s a horny album and she loves making those.

Before “Trinkets” she asked the crowd if they had done a trinket trade yet. She then stepped to the side of the stage, while the crowd threw all their trinkets to the stage. From socks to keychains and even a plush rat, the stage was soon filled with an assortment of stuff. It hasn’t even been a full week since the start of the tour, but she already managed to get over 50 pickle keychains from the fans. After the dancers swept the trinkets off the stage, she came back to talk some more to the fans. After seeing the rat plushy it reminded her how she brought her manager a taxidermy roadkill mouse, taking a shit on the toilet. She also talked about her 30th birthday coming up and all she wants is to pop pussy, trinkets and oral sex, which she asked from the birthday santa claus. She then told the crowd about the crows, collecting trinkets and shiny little objects for her. The dancers then came back with crow beaks on their faces.

Throughout the show multiple cardboard stage props made their way to the stage, from waves to clouds to a headstone and vanity. She wanted it to feel like a scrapbook and junk journal, as if we were a part of her diary. While not wearing much clothing to start with, her pants came off first, while also taking her top off later, leaving her in her lingerie.

Between all the newer songs she also did a medley of two older songs, “Toxic” and “Invitation.” The next song, “Chinchinya,” then started with a heavy intro, which the crowd seemed to enjoy a lot. Before getting into “Manners” she told the crowd to imagine we are in a poetry cafe, asking the crowd to only snap fingers instead of clapping. She then did a spoken word version of part of “Manners,” with the crowd snapping after every sentence.

We now came to the halloween part of the set, which included her songs “Halloweenie III: Seven Days,” “Halloweenie IV: Innards,” “Halloweenie V: The Moss King” and “Halloweenie VI: Possess Me.” She was crawling over the stage, talking about unzipping her human skin and feeling bugs crawl inside of her. After this she got out of her ‘trance’ and went back to normal as she ‘zipped her human skin back on.’

While we were getting close to the end of the show, first a Smoochie Girl had to be crowned. A girl in a fully pink outfit, resembling Jean Paul Gaultier style with pointy boobs, was brought up on stage. She told the crowd her name is Sanra, a fashion student who made their outfit themselves. Ashnikko gave her a sash that said “best smooch in town” and a crown, before leaving the stage again.

For “Itty Bitty” she asked the crowd if anyone was wearing a tiny skirt, that could also double as a belt in size. For the last two songs of the evening the crowd was as loud as they could be. The set ended with hits “Slumber Party” and “Daisy,” after which she thanked the crowd and crawled back through the tiny door in the backdrop of the stage.

Despite being sick and her voice getting raspier throughout the night, she still played her full set and gave all her energy for every single song. Jumping around the stage, dancing and singing is not an easy job while perfectly healthy, so our respect for her grew even more after seeing her pull through for the 90+ minute set. This was just the start of the ‘Smoochies Tour,’ with a fully packed schedule all over the world to still come. If you’re up for a show full of confidence, sensual energy and catchy music, an Ashnikko show has to be on your radar. All remaining dates can be found here.
