The reggae songwriter and singer Mike Love, born in Hawaii on the island of O’ahu, graced Dublin with his very first show in Ireland, in The Grand Social on Sunday February 1st.
The evening opened with a performance by Roaman (born Riccardo Vitalone), an Italian singer and songwriter from Rome. He set a relaxed tone with some jokes and chilled acoustic songs. He played without a setlist, choosing songs spontaneously, and included a singalong cover of The Black Eyed Peas’ “Where Is the Love?”. After briefly losing his guitar in Lisbon and borrowing instruments from friends for several shows, Roaman was happy to be reunited with his own guitar in Dublin. Like Mike Love, this was also his first time performing in Ireland.

Soon after, Mike Love walked onstage and began with: “Ireland! Finally! I know you have been calling me over for some time now! I’ve heard you, and I am finally here!” He was met with loud cheers from everyone inside of the soldout venue. Throughout the evening, Mike took time between songs to speak directly to the crowd, thanking everyone for their support — those who follow him on his journey, attend his shows, and listen to his music. He expressed how grateful he felt to be able to share his music and spoke about how each concert is unique, as his music, his voice, and the voices of the crowd come together to create a special wave of energy.

For those less familiar with Mike Love, his music goes beyond simple entertainment. Indeed, he sees it as a sacred and meaningful way to connect, learn, grow, and heal. Something that his fans, myself included, strongly relate to. Something that could be witnessed during his gig, as the energy was nearly palpable. Many tears were shed, but those were not due to sadness. It is difficult to put it into words, as it is something one needs to experience to understand such feelings. An awakening of the soul. A Jahwakening.

After the show, Mike shared his appreciation on social media, writing: “The energy in Dublin last night was off the charts! Seriously some of the sweetest and most loving people I’ve met in my travels.” This will definitely allow the Irish fans to hope that he will be back soon on the Emerald island.
If you’d like to go to one of his shows, Mike Love’s European tour continues until February 22nd, finishing in Milan, Italy. He will then perform at several festivals in Costa Rica and across the United States, with tour dates scheduled through July 2026.
