Sprints Debut Their ‘All That Is Over’ Tour in Rome, Italy Ahead of Album Release

If you’ve been following First III No Flash for a while, you surely know that Sprints were at the top of our yearly recap last year with their debut album Letter to Self. The band, consisting of Karla Chubb (guitar and vocals), Sam McCann (bass and vocals), Zac Stephenson (guitar) and Jack Callan (drums), will release their sophomore album All That Is Over this Friday September 26th for City Slag | Sub Pop. After featuring in the most prestigious European festivals, including Glastonbury, and having toured with their fellow Dubs Fontaines D.C. over the summer, tonight Sprints are performing at the Monk Club in Rome their first Italian show debuting. The event is hosted by Radio Rock 106.6.

The staple venue of the roman independent scene started filling up as soon as doors opened and it was mostly full when the opening act, Jennifer In Paradise, took to the stage. Albeit being a relatively recent band, both their identity and their sound are well defined. Jennifer In Paradise played a highly-energetic set which showcases all their influences mixing post-punk and hardcore with new-wave and shoegaze. Lorenzo Marvica, the frontman, vocalist and lyricist of the band exhibits outstanding showmanship and the capability of catching and retaining the attention of everyone in the audience. The set, just over half an hour long, included their latest single Minormale, out on September 12th for Sangue Acido Dischi.

By 11 pm the crowd was hot and sweaty, literally, Jennifer in Paradise revved everyone’s engines for Sprints to debut the highly anticipated tour in support of All That Is Over which will take them through Europe and the UK this year and the US, and a second European leg in 2026. The audience was a balanced mix of die-hard fans, and curious attendees trusting Radio Rock’s scouting ability. The set, just over one hour in length, included songs from their 2024 debut album Letter to Self and the singles off their 2025 release All That Is Over. “Something’s Gonna Happen” builds up the tension and then right into the ‘Descartes’ to release it. “Feast” and “Heavy,” “Rage” and “Beg” follow in relentless succession as the crowd loosens and erupts their energy in multiple mosh pits. “Up And Comer” is a personal favourite: an abrasive track that explores self-doubt, self-consciousness and the plague of impostor syndrome. Sprints are not just ‘pretty good for an up and comer’ — they’re a solid band that cements their name as one of the most interesting acts around. Sprints are direct, vulnerable and unpretentious, and as such are incredibly effective at speaking directly to their generation.

As the set runs short, it’s time for their latest single, their slowish-song “Better,” followed by “Literary Mind” a visceral and passionate song with a hounding refrain about love, lust and desire. The band gifted the audience a chance to listen to “Desire,” the final track of their upcoming album, that defines its “Gothic Cowboy” vibe. By their own admission, it’s the best song they’ve written and the best song they’ll ever write. the song, nearly 6 minutes long, indeed starts as a slow-tempo americana ballad, and explodes in a gut-wrenching slide-only guitar solo and Chubb’s chanting” “The good, the bad, the best you’ve ever had” in escalating intensity that felt unrelenting an hypnotic.  While I am now longing to hear “Desire” off the album, this live performance will stick with me forever. It’s hard to think of another time a first listen hit me with such intensity.

The last song of the evening, was “Little Fix” with its super theatrical live intro and its in-your-face attitude, perfect as a send-off. The outro saw a member of the audience join the band to play guitar while Karla Chubb abandons herself on top of the crowd that carries her as the whole audience sang the night to a close. Sprints will be back in Italy soon, they will play in Milan on the 25th of March 2026 as part of their EU/UK/USA tour.
