Orville Peck — a country singer-songwriter, actor — and at one time a Broadway and ballet artist! Who knew that this mysteriously masked cowboy with a baritone voice could bring down the House of Blues in Anaheim on October 29, 2026! He did just that and I was not prepared! The House of Blues was just one of the opening stops of his latest Man Turned Mule Tour, supporting his fourth album, Mule. Prior to attending the show and listening to the new album, I could sense an evolution of his personal struggles with addiction, sobriety, heartbreak, and self-discovery of which made him more relatable and down to earth. Abbie Callahan, a newly emerging multi-talented country-based artist, opened the show with songs that had a pop, folk, bluegrass feel to it that got the crowd energized and on their toes.

The stage was set in a honky-tonk bar-inspired environment with beautiful warm lighting and misplaced stage props. I admired that he was channeling his Broadway stage roots to create a similar stage for his show. As an artist, I appreciated it, and felt it was a great nod to his past in so many different ways. He opened the show with “Big Ol’ House,” then his latest hit “Already Gone.” His set included the many highs and lows of his career. Also included were “ Rehab Blues,” “C’mon Baby Cry,” and “Bronco.” His loyal fan base was there reliving and enjoying each moment. We were all surprised when he brought out famous drag queen Trixie Mattel and sang a duet to the Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash classic, “Jackson.” What a treat!

He wrapped up the night with two encores, the haunting “Dead of Night” and “Too Little, Too Late” from his latest album, Mule. The Man Turned Mule Tour continues in the US with stops in Chicago, Brooklyn, Atlanta, Nashville, and select cities in Canada! He returns for a few more shows in the US with shows in Boston and Boise! Make sure to see Orville Peck when he comes to a city near you! This mysterious cowboy delivers an amazing, heartfelt show with a great range of emotion and love!
