The Buckhead Theatre in Atlanta, GA played host to more than just a concert—it was the birth of something new. That “something new” was the official launch of Waring Records, a record label founded by Jordan Waring and built on innovation and a commitment to moving the musical needle. The night was a celebration of fresh beginnings and a showcase of what’s to come. More than just a label kickoff, the evening featured standout performances from the immensely talented Matisyahu and the soulful stylings of Alfreda Gerald, signaling the label’s dedication to pushing the boundaries of every musical note—regardless of genre.

Matisyahu brought a relaxed, easygoing presence to the stage while blending that calm energy with a sound as unique as the crackle of a vinyl record—nostalgic yet refreshingly original. Joined by Chris Blackwell and The Atlanta Blues Syndicate Band, the performance felt both grounded and transcendent, exuding a kind of energy that seamlessly wove together the musical fabrics of reggae, hip-hop, and rock in a way only Matisyahu can. Whether delivering rapid-fire verses or locking into hypnotic rhythms, he captivated the entire room.

After a brief intermission, Chris Blackwell and The Atlanta Blues Syndicate Band returned to the stage—this time dressed in black pants, shirts, and ties, accented with gold jackets that shimmered under the stage lights. The look and feel transported the room back to the musical glory days of the ’70s and ’80s, along with the soulful sounds those decades produced. As the band set the groove, Alfreda emerged, ready to deliver a performance to remember. Supporting the release of her debut single, “Died to Myself,” and her upcoming album Fate Will Have It (due out this year), Alfreda filled the room with a powerful blend of R&B, classic soul, and rock & roll that had everyone ready to dance and party all night long. Her interaction with the crowd between songs created an intimate vibe—the kind of experience every concertgoer dreams of and remembers for a lifetime. Even as I moved through the room capturing moments in time, I found myself dancing, swept up in the music as it filled every square inch of the space.
This was a night of new beginnings for all, yet deeply rooted in decades of musical influence and style. Regardless of your musical preferences, the night delivered what I can only describe as truly great music from a stage full of incredibly talented musicians. Waring Records may be just starting out, but if the performances on that Buckhead Theatre stage are any indication of what’s ahead, then Waring Records is embarking on a musical journey we’ll all want to be part of.
