Vendredi Sur Mer (real name: Charline Mignot) is a Swiss singer-songwriter and photographer known for her dreamy, synth-pop sounds and poetic lyrics. Her music combines lush, retro-styled beats with a distinctly French pop energy, often delving into themes of romance, sensuality, and introspection. With her signature soft, sultry vocals and a recognisable cinematic feel, she is on our radar and on the rise.
She just released her new title track “Malabar Princess” today as part of her upcoming album, Malabar Princess, due out April 25th. Sung in French, the track carries a deep sense of nostalgia, evoking memories of simpler or/and cherished times… such as childhood. Personally, I found the lyrics moving, as they stirred emotions and recollections I could easily connect with. I believe many others will relate as well; given they can understand French or translate the lyrics!

Beyond the lyrics, the melody itself is immersive. It invites listeners to embark on a reflective journey through their own past experiences. I felt that the song has a way of making distant memories feel closer, almost tangible — while reigniting the emotions tied to them. It’s a beautiful piece that gently transports you to moments you may not have realized you missed.
The album derived from a writing residency in Montréal and nods to her childhood roots in Swiss Alps. Pre-order the upcoming album to hear more from Vendredi Sur Mer.
