It has been said that nobody at an OK Go concert is working harder than the crew manning the air cannons and Saturday night’s SOLD OUT show at Detroit’s Majestic Theatre proved just how true that may be. From the moment lead singer Damian Kulash hit the stage singing “This Too Shall Pass” a torrent of confetti kicked off that, by the end of the night, you could have made snow [confetti?] angels with. Not that you would find a single person in the room complaining about the copious amount of multi-colored paper in the air.

OK Go, known partially for their incredibly complex and beautiful music videos, hit the road on the And the Adjacent Possible tour in promotion of the indie rock groups fifth studio album by the same name released on April 11. The new album marks their first since the 2014 release of Hungry Ghosts with the tour itself also being OK Go’s first big stint on the road since 2019. You never would have known they’d taken a single day off at all though, even with the sold out crowd and Detroit only being night four on the tour they brought an incredible performance to an all ages crowd that had whole families dancing and jumping for confetti like it was free money!

With a catalog now spanning three decades there were hits to be had at every turn with the first half dozen including “I Won’t Let You Down,” “Take Me With You” the lead single off And the Adjacent Possible, “White Knuckles,” and “The Writing’s On the Wall,” (each of these songs has a music video worth your time if you aren’t already familiar). From here the group slowed things down a bit giving fans a chance to rest their legs as a table of handbells was brought to the stage to play a special version of “Shooting the Moon” off 2010’s Of the Blue Colour of the Sky. The already dimmed lights led perfectly to Damian hopping the barricade and heading into the middle of the sold out audience to play “This Is How It Ends” lit from spotlights on stage. Truly a beautiful moment they chose to add to an already packed live set.

Between songs and confetti blasts the group would take questions from the audience, one of the younger folks in attendance asked where the group got their name from. Bass player Tim Nordwind told a story of how he attended an art camp in northern Michigan with Damian when they were kids and had a teacher who would say the words, “OK… Go!” while they were creating. The details of which brought out the laughs as the group amped things up yet again before closing out their pre-encore set with “Here It Goes Again” (the super famous treadmill video!) with the sold out crowd erupting once more!

Leg one of the tour has already wrapped up and the majority of the May thru June shows are already sold out, but if you can find a way to get an OK Go show you will not be disappointed! Hopefully we won’t have to wait quite so many years for the next tour, but even if that is the case, you’ll likely still be finding confetti from 2025 in your car.
