Nudie Jeans LA Gets Rocked by Surf Rockers Wavves

Surf punk band, Wavves, played a sold out show at Nudie Jeans in Los Angeles last week. Putting on the show was Goldmine Magazine and Nudie Jeans. Less than a hundred people gathered in the intimate space for a night of free music. As far as 3 hours prior, a line of excited attendees was already beginning to form. Everyone in line was supplied with free copies of the latest edition of Goldmine featuring Wavves’ lead singer, Nathan Williams, on the cover and a Nudie Jeans tote bag.

First on the bill was The Sols, a San Diego based band with a high energy. They started the show off well; gaining the first mosh pits. A particular track that stood out to me was their song, “Cherry Red Nova,” a dreamy ballad-like track. Following them was The Fazes. This band had a different sound, somewhat like a punk disco. By bringing in keys, there was an old school flare to them that made them quite interesting.

“We want Wavves! We want Wavves! We want Wavves!” chants started to come from the crowd, anticipating the band’s set. When the band began to play, the already hyped up crowd responded in full. There was moshing, crowd surfing, and beers flying all around. They played popular favorites such as “Green Eyes,” “King of the Beach,” and “Nine Is God.”

Wavves recently released a deluxe edition of their album, Spun, this year. The guys played a newer song off this album called “Busy Sleeping.” Up until the very last song, the crowd kept the momentum going; rocking out to each song played. A fun moment happened where Nathan moved to play in the middle of the audience — the mosh pit fully surrounding him as he started to sing.

Also present at the show was resident photographer Josh Beech, who photographed the latest Goldmine issue cover that features Wavves. Ahead of the show, he was running around and signing some copies for attendees. He, of course, was also taking photos throughout the night.

A truly legendary show all thanks to Goldmine, Nudie Jeans, and of course the bands.

Wavves’ album, Spun (Deluxe), is out now.
