MOTHER MOTHER, Cavetown Bring Magic Melodies to Los Angeles

Canada’s latest alt-rock VIPs Mother Mother stopped at LA’s new outdoor venue, The Torch, which is nestled next to the infamous LA Coliseum. The band recently released their highly anticipated album Grief Chapter, which has been on fire across all streaming and social platforms. They just kicked off their tour this week, with plans to hit cities across the United States. Bringing along support from Cavetown and Meet Me At The Altar, the second stop on this tour was a beautiful night set aside one of Los Angeles’ most gorgeous landmarks.

Meet Me At The Altar served us a fresh breath of pop punk nostalgia with their youthful, glowing energy. Frontwoman Edith Victoria bounced around the stage as her two bandmates rocked out to their catchy and upbeat hits like “Say It (To My Face)” and “Now or Never.” This trio was the perfect addition to the tour to pump up the energy amongst the crowd — they surely did not disappoint.

English indie artist and songwriter Robbie Skinner — better known to the world as Cavetown — immediately caught our eye with an enchanted stage production. The onstage set included an inflatable tree stump along with a mushroom backdrop and vibrant hues shining down from the lighting. The crowd was adorned with frog hats, appropriately so as one of his biggest songs is titled “Frog.” The setlist was full of tracks that were a blend of serenity and bliss that included “Frog” along with other favorites like, “Devil Town,” “Juliet,” “This Is Home” and many others. The audience was eager to hear every track, embracing the warm energy that radiated quite clearly between Cavetown and his fans. Many waved their hand-decorated signs in the air, hoping for their favorite artist to catch a glimpse of their dedicated support. Cavetown’s genuine artistry is something that truly shines both within recorded tracks and during his live performances. We recommend checking out Cavetown if you are a fan of bright indie and bedroom pop.

Mother Mother have been blowing up across social platforms recently, giving their journey a bold, well-earned resurgence. The band emerged onstage engulfed in a swirly haze as single-color lights illuminated the stage. Mother Mother brought such an uplifting aura from the moment they stepped on stage. Their 15-song setlist allocated tracks from various albums, with most coming from O My Heart — a fan favorite. We were happy to hear them open with “Nobody Escapes” off their newest album, Grief Chapter, along with “Explode” and “The Matrix.” There was a beautiful sense of solidarity and fellowship between the bandmates throughout the show. You could easily feel their musicianship radiating between one another, fueling this magical vessel that is Mother Mother. Their voices harmonized beautifully, while delivering a powerful and complex instrumental performance as well. Even though the show had visuals and stage production fit for a stadium, it still felt intimate enough to embrace the experience of this monumental indie group.

If you’re looking for a fun, uplifting sound that serves as an excellent soundtrack to daily life, give Mother Mother a listen. Their well-rounded indie sound meshes bright pop elements with mellow alternative notes to create a seamless, fresh feel. Check out our gallery below for more.
