Having already built a name for herself on social media, Kami Kehoe sweetens things up with her latest EP and first release under Atlantic Records, KANDY. Blazing a new trail as a hot new alt-rock artist, she combines her melodious vocals with her own powerhouse drumming, pouring grit and passion into every song. She has built a hypnotic sound that landed her a coveted spot on the Vans Warped Tour lineup and can be seen opening for rock heavyweights Seether and Daughtry later this year on their fall tour.
Kehoe has been building up to her eagerly anticipated release through videos on social platforms, teasing song clips while showing off her heavy-hitting drumming, clad in black eyeliner and chains to round out her aesthetic. These videos across Instagram and TikTok have amassed millions of views and garnered well-deserved attention from rock fans around the world.
KANDY is comprised of 5 songs navigating the nature of toxic relationships, opening with the title track declaring softly, “You taste like candy / but you’re rotting my teeth,” before exploding into packed drum beats. “You taste so sweet / and I’m so weak,” Kehoe belts during the chorus, her sultry voice bursting with desperation before screaming, “You’re bad for me.”
“Did I make you obsessed?” Kehoe asks in the second track, aptly titled “OBSESSED.” She highlights the stark contrast between obsession and real love through the powerhouse track, dripping with grit. “MAKE U HATE ME” brings a groove worth dancing to as Kehoe laments, “I don’t want to hurt you baby / but that’s the only way you’ll let me go.”
“DOPAMINE” is the lead single off the EP which has already garnered millions of streams with its thrashing instrumentals and addicting vocals. The track powerfully sets the tone for the entire EP and Kehoe’s distinctive sound. “COME DOWN” closes the EP with a plea to be forgotten, and the acceptance of “I’m still hurting / but I deserve it,” with an acoustic guitar bursting back into the heavy sound Kehoe has become known for.
