Hiatus Kaiyote Brings Their Cosmic Groove to The Eastern In Atlanta

Atlanta is a melting pot for all types of music, and the jazz-infused funk of Hiatus Kaiyote fits right in. Making the long trip from their home in Australia, the band brought their unmistakable sound to The Eastern in Atlanta, delivering a show that had it all. The production was simple, but with neon colors and black light effects, the audience felt like we were embarking on a cosmic journey.

The stage curtains stayed closed at first, building anticipation as lights flickered and shadows moved underneath. When Eric — the (what I’d call) “Sharkosaur” — peeked through the curtain, the crowd erupted in thunderous applause and screams. If Eric was making an appearance, we knew the fun was about to begin. Moments later, the lights dropped and the band launched straight into their unmistakable groove of “And We Go Gentle.” Nai Palm emerged in a neon green jumpsuit that perfectly matched the stage atmosphere and lighting, greeted by a roar that echoed throughout the room. Her vocals—powerful and dynamic — cut through like a hot knife through butter, while the rhythm section kept everything tight, fluid, and driving like a river.

The set flowed effortlessly between old favorites like “Jekyll,” “Red Room,” and “By Fire” to newer songs like the title track “Love Heart Cheat Code.” The performance was filled with high-energy moments and more restrained, emotional passages. Each shift felt intentional, keeping us guessing what would come next. Years of playing together have given the band an almost telepathic connection; their musical chemistry was obvious in the way they responded to one another on stage. Every transition, every improvisation, every break landed with precision.

The Eastern felt tailor-made for a show like this— intimate enough for the artist and audience to share a connection, yet spacious enough to let the music breathe and expand.

By the end of the night, Hiatus Kaiyote left no doubt as to why they have such a loyal fan base. Their shows aren’t just concerts — they’re voyages we take together through time and space. Built on musicianship, energy, and connection, this performance delivered everything fans came to hear and more.
