From First To Last's Next Chapter Starts with "Your Name In Red Ink"

From First To Last is so back with a new frontman to take over the rapidly growing post-hardcore scene. With a brand new single “Your Name in Red Ink” featuring new vocalist Lil Lotus, the boys decided to throw a hometown pop up show at local grunge venue 1720 Warehouse in Los Angeles, CA. Directly opening were rising stars Car Underwater, and they fit the bill perfectly. It was an evening of early 2006 screamo brought fresh to life and served up twenty years later.

Los Angeles based band Car Underwater is newer to the scene but boy are they mighty. Car Underwater bring together vocalist Max Epstein (from Photographic Memory, Wisp, Jane Remover), guitarist Sonny Foster, drummer Zach Capitti-Fenton (Photographic Memory, Wisp), bassist Nolan Nunes (from Ghostmane), and Australian producer, keyboardist, and vocalist Darcy Baylis (from Ninajirachi, daine, After). Compared to the likes of UnderOATH, Senses Fail and the kings themselves From First To Last, the guys proved within the first song that was indeed completely accurate. Impeccable clean vocals, grimy breakdowns you need to nod along with, and huge mosh pit in the middle all pointed to being in a timewarp that I wasn’t ready to step out of. Ripping through the songs on their EP dropped earlier this year, Dagger Breaks Window, the guys had stage presence that could have convinced me they have been playing these songs together for years. The guys undoubtedly made an entire new room of fans.

From First To Last has had a rotating lineup over the years sure, but nothing has prepared us for the new era that is among us. Debuting an exciting new frontman and a sign on with Fearless Records just in time for the screamo revolution of 2026, Lil Lotus has proven that he can hold it down for the gang and then some. Following the release of their first single with Lil Lotus on the track, “Your Name In Red Ink” was also followed up with an official music video and this show announcement to solidify the update.

The crowd at 1720 was eager and ready: we got our sea-legs in the pit and found the crowd surfing paths. Longtime members Matt Good (guitarist, vocals) Travis Richter (guitarist, vocals), and Matt Manning (bass) took the stage with Chris Lent (filling in on drums) and met the crowd with insatiable joy appreciation that was just bounced right back. The booming bass to “The One Armed Boxer…” called out and sparked the crowd back into life. Travis does his opening growl, and the mosh erupts. As the first verse hits, Lotus appears immediately proves his worth with the screamo legends. He absolutely nailed every single line, all the vocals, the stage presence, it was nothing short of phenomenal. Seamlessly flowing to “Note To Self,” they then played “Your Name In Red Ink” where the crowd was already screaming the words back to Lotus. The band even had a slow acoustic moment for the classic “Emily,” showcasing Lotus’s insane vocal range and also how much he loved being on stage with the band. The chemistry with the band was unmatched, Matt at one time screaming into the mic: “Man, we are so back this is amazing!”

And it was amazing. Everyone understood their assignment. The guys smiling back at one another throughout the set let us know they saw us and had our support for what was to come. After catching up with Lil Lotus for a quick portrait after the show, Lotus says we won’t have to wait much longer for more new music.
