Can You Feel It? Chicago Gets Down With The Sickness

Disturbed’s The Sickness: 25th Anniversary Tour, made its way through Chicago’s United Center, which plays host to Chicago’s professional sports teams; Bulls and Blackhawks and for probably the first time this season, saw a SOLD OUT crowd. This was also a hometown show for Disturbed who originally formed in The Windy City back in 1994. This tour I feel was one for the ages, especially for those who grew up on rock, which had supporting acts Sevendust and Three Days Grace, which brought me straight back to high school days.

Sevendust started off the night with a quick six song setlist that ended with a duet with Disturbed’s David Draiman on their song, “Black.” Next up was widely anticipated Three Days Grace, which I know everyone was anxiously awaiting to see with the return of original lead signer, Adam Gontier. Adam had abruptly left the band back in 2013 to pursue a solo career and later said he had left due to “creative differences.” Overall it was solid performance that featured a twelve song setlist that featured their hit songs from the early 2000’s such as “Animal I Have Become,” “I Hate Everything About You,” “Chalk Outline,” and “Never Too Late.” It was a cool and an interesting dynamic to see two lead singers, Adam and Matt Walst. The two singers both vibe pretty well together and pull off a tag-team effort and bond.

Long awaited, Disturbed made its way to the stage. With the band members at their respective battle stations and lead singer, David Draiman, making his way to the stage, being rolled out on a dolly and straight-jacket and face mask, in a very Hannibal Lecter-esque fashion. Disturbed played one of their greatest albums “The Sickness” in its entirety from beginning to end. It was incredible to see 23,500 people, in unison, give an infamous “OOO-AHH-AHH-AHH-AHH!”

The band then took a brief intermission and came back to perform some of their greatest hits such as “Ten Thousand Fists,” “Indestructible,” and “Inside The Fire.” It’s safe to say, 25 years later Disturbed still shows no sign of slowing down putting on an powerful and memorable performance and production, with amazing lighting and pyrotechnics throughout the entirety of the show.
