The Interrupters’ set at the Kia Forum for ALT98.7’s Friendsgiving on November 22nd provided a much needed kick of energy to get the night underway. Aimee Interrupter sounded as powerful as ever, accompanied by the three brothers’ fun stage antics throughout. Relevant to the theme of the show, they played “A Friend Like Me” and all of their best, even including a cover of Billie Eilish’s “Bad Guy.”
The LA-native Interrupters interestingly wouldn’t be a band if it weren’t for Dirty Heads, who played later this night. Somewhat of a full-circle event, the three brothers originally met Aimee while they were touring as Telecasters supporting Dirty Heads. They had amazing chemistry, as they laughed, joked around, and danced together, making for the evening’s energetic peak, making way for the relaxing reggae vibes to come.
Traveling down the coast a bit to Long Beach, Sublime with ROME took the stage. Though this was ROME’s last hurrah with Sublime with Rome, the night was perfectly curated to admire all he’s accomplished while getting excited for what’s to come. The Kia Forum was alive with fans singing along to every song as they ran through covers “Smoke Two Joints,” “Wrong Way,” “Santeria” but also “You Better Listen” and “Take it Or Leave It.”
The closest stop on their tour to their home of Long Beach, CA, the feeling was that of a hometown show. Many in the crowd had dark sunglasses on and tie-dye, with the shirts saying things like “I’m here for ROME!” ROME returned later with Dirty Heads for “Lay Me Down”, for the last time (in a while) to a Southern California audience. Fans have ROME’s new focus, his forthcoming solo album to look forward to, coming soon.
Hailing from just a bit further south, Huntington Beach natives Dirty Heads blend reggae and hip-hop to keep the mood chill and positive. Brass and congas on stage left, keyboards and hybrid drum kit on stage right, the floor was open for Jared Watson and Dustin Bushnell to vibe with the audience. They of course played “My Sweet Summer,” “Rescue Me” and “Oxygen,” but also invited The Interrupters back for “Rage,” and “Lay Me Down” with Rome, which was welcomed with possibly the biggest applause of the night. The confetti cannons punctuated a fantastic, varied set by Dirty Heads.
