Tinashe Brings the ‘Match My Freak’ World Tour to Chicago

Rising pop/R&B star, Tinashe, brought her Match My Freak World Tour through the windy city November 13th, 2024. The host for the evening was Chicago’s iconic Aragon Ballroom located in the northern part of Chicago on a typical rainy November night.

Raveena (Connor Hannan)

Opening for Tinashe was Raveena. Raveena’s music is deeply influenced by her cultural background and her love for both Western and Indian musical traditions. She first gained attention with her 2017 EP Shanti and later with her debut full-length album Lucid (2020). Raveena put on a ten song setlist featuring a calming nature like set that matches her vibe and voice perfectly. Raveena’s elegant vocals, smooth melodies, and thought-provoking lyrics, often touching on themes of love, identity, and self-reflection. It was a very calming set that was easy for the crowd to vibe with and get them warmed up for Tinashe.

Tinashe then set the crowd ablaze when she walked onto the stage. To a damn near sold-out Aragon Ballroom, the crowd was ready to match her freak for the night.

Tinashe Jorgensen Kachingwe, better known as Tinashe, is a multi-talented person who’s an established actress, dancer and singer. She first rose to fame with her single “2 On” which peaked at #24 on Billboard Hot 100 and has appeared alongside major artists such as Britney Spears and Chance the Rapper and other rising star Charli XCX.

The Aragon boasts a large stage and it seemed every inch of it was used for Tinashe’s set. One of the most fascinating/overwhelming parts of the performance was the choreography. The choreography was on point, to a T with Tinashe and her backup dancers that was technically sound from beginning to end. I would characterize the choreography and signing as a tight, precision-driven, showcasing her background in hip-hop and contemporary styles, while her voice effortlessly transitions between smooth R&B melodies and powerful high notes. The singer put on a massive twenty plus song setlist featuring hits such as “2 On” “All Hands On Deck” and of course “Nasty.”

Overall, the Match My Freak World Tour definitely delivered and was an energizing performance from beginning to end. Be sure to check out one of the remaining dates here!
