It’s been a pretty long time since the vibrant and energetic Enter Shikari has toured the west coast, and this time they brought along some special guests — You Me At Six and Yours Truly. This would be Yours Truly first time in America, adding an extra layer of excitement to the night. For You Me At Six, however, the tour carried a bittersweet note, as it was their final run as a band since forming in 2005. With that in the back of everyone’s mind — from the bands on stage to the audience in the crowd — the intensity was turned up, making for a truly remarkable night.
Opening up the night was Yours Truly, traveling all the way from Australia. Their set consisted heavily of their latest album Toxic, along with selections from their earlier EPs. With their stage presence and amazing vocals from vocalist Mikaila Delgado, Yours Truly immediately captured the audience, having Sacramento immediately falling in love with them.
Following them up was You Me At Six, marking one of the final nights of their 20+ year career. Though it was bittersweet, the audience and band did not hold back. Fans were treated to a plethora of hits spanning their career, with each one being more significant than the last. A special highlight of their set was Rou Reynolds of Enter Shikari taking the stage for his guest spot during “No Future? Yeah Right.” Their stage setup was nothing short of impressive, with special effects and lighting that made the stage literally look on fire — a fitting setting for the energy from the crowd.
Finally, the stage went dark, with a spotlight only on Rou from Enter Shikari center stage, giving us a spoken rendition of “System…” followed by the band coming on stage and entering “…Meltdown.” The momentum of their entire set never stopped — from the mini rave taking place during “goldfish ~,” to an acoustic performance of “Juggernauts” — the entire set was pure, unfiltered energy. Fans familiar with Enter Shikari know their shows are nothing short of a spectacle, and tonight was no exception. From smoke machines to lasers, and an unreal moment where Rou made contact with aliens through a portal — yes that actually happened — it was an experience like no other.
As Enter Shikari wrapped up their set with “The Dreamers Hotel,” the audience didn’t waste a single second asking for an encore. The band came back with “(Pls) set me on fire” and “Sorry, You’re Not A Winner,” followed by “A Kiss For The Whole World x” to close out the night. It was an honor to witness and be part of not only Yours Truly’s first American tour, but also You Me At Six’s farewell after decades on stage — with this night being all made possible by Enter Shikari.
