Wrapping up the second leg of their tour celebrating the 20th anniversary of the album …Is a Real Boy, Say Anything took the stage on election night in Columbia, South Carolina at The Senate to a crowd of millennials looking to sing along to songs that meant so much to them as teens. Opening the show was a band called, Runt, who came out with their indie grunge sound to warm the crowd up. Next up was Circus Trees, a female fronted rock group from Marlborough, Massachusetts. Then Social Animals based out of Minnesota came out with their smooth indie sound and catchy tracks got the crowd ready and energized for Say Anything.
Starting with the song “Belt” and moving into “Woe”, the crowd was heavily into Say Anything from the start. The crowd started singing heavily to “Alive With The Glory of Love,” a love song about lead singer Max Bemis’ grandparents during the holocaust, pushing the show to the next level. This tour had everything your elder emo heart could want, including a cameo from wife Sherri Dupree of Eisley fame during “I Want to Know Your Plans.”
Ending with the social commentary song “Admit It” felt like the perfect cap to give this album a proper anniversary celebration. After disbanding in 2018, Say Anything came back with new music this year with the album …Is Committed and announced the 20 years celebration of …Is a Real Boy where they still have dates throughout November through the Northeast and Midwest.
