Sum 41’s farewell London show on October 31st was something truly extraordinary, standing out among the other dates of their “Tour of the Setting Sum.” As the doors of the OVO Arena swung open, a sea of fans flooded in, dressed in everything from skeletons to hot dogs, setting a lively and festive tone for the night.
The iconic AC/DC track “T.N.T.” roared over the speakers, signaling that the band would be taking the stage any moment. When the black curtain in front of the stage finally dropped, revealing the full setup and the band members, the Canadian band stormed onto the stage to a massive cheer from the crowd.
The setlist was a dream come true, featuring fan favourites such as “Underclass Hero,” “The Hell Song,” “Pieces,” “Over My Head,” and “Walking Disaster.” Of course, they also rocked out classics like “Fat Lip” and “Still Waiting,” which took everyone on a nostalgic journey through Sum 41’s legendary discography. Despite the bittersweet fact that this was one of their final shows, Deryck was adamant about making it a celebration, urging the crowd to live it up in true punk rock style ! And the fans delivered: embracing the night with crowd-surfing, moshing, and belting every word. The pit was a whirlwind, with shoes and shirts flying overhead, and a few fans even ended up in the medic’s care with everything from broken arms to bloodied shirts and heads. At one point, the band actually had to pause to let security assist an injured fan from the pit.
Deryck was relentless, darting across the stage with boundless energy, calling out to fans in costume and encouraging everyone to mosh and sing along. Guitarist Dave Baksh shredded through his solos effortlessly, while Frank Zummo on drums added thunderous beats that kept the energy sky-high.The show’s visuals were also spectacular, featuring fog machines, a giant inflatable skeleton, confetti showers, pyrotechnics such as fire and fireworks, and massive balloons for the crowd to toss around — and for Deryck to pop.
For die-hard fans, this Halloween night wasn’t just about the music; it was a bittersweet, adrenaline-fueled journey that left everyone leaving the OVO Arena with ringing ears and memories that will last a lifetime. An unforgettable Halloween celebration which cemented Sum 41’s place as one of punk rock’s most beloved bands.
