Bleachers Unleashes the Power of Live Music in Michigan

On September 29, the New Jersey based band Bleachers stopped at Michigan Lottery Amphitheater in Sterling Heights on their Bleachers Forever tour. This tour is in support of their new album Everyone For Ten Minutes. Led by the incomparable Jack Antonoff, Bleachers is a powerhouse live act where backing tracks are not used. They have several musicians and instruments on stage in order to create every sound organically.

This Is Lorelei (Samantha Nork)

This Is Lorelei opened the show with some intimate indie rock. They got the crowd warmed up with songs such as “I Will Eat My Heart in the Morning,” “Billy Came Back” and “Holo Boy.” They offered a relaxed contrast to the explosive energy Bleachers would bring later in the night.

Just as Bleachers were going to enter the stage, they played Frank Sinatra’s “My Way” as a walkout tune. As soon as that ended, they immediately went into “sideways” and “the van.” Not only was the band energetic, but so was the crowd. It was so refreshing to see an audience that was just as entertaining as the band on stage. Fans from every generation filled the venue, singing and dancing to every song. Jack Antonoff also loves to interact with members of the crowd, which was a wonderful sight to see.

Bleachers shows pack a full array of instruments including horns and keys, rarely playing a song the same way twice. Their live arrangement breathes fresh energy into their studio tracks. Fans were even treated to acoustic versions of “I Wanna Get Better,” “45” and “Dream of Mickey Mantle.” There was no better way to cap off the show than with “Stop Making This Hurt,” which turned into an extended saxophone outro.
