Girl Tones Embodies the Roots of Rock & Roll in Phoenix

The sound was loud and crisp, hitting exactly the way it needed to for a rock show. It didn’t overpower the room; it fed it. Every note added to an energy that was already running high from the moment the set kicked off.

Girl Tones kept the crowd locked in from start to finish. Between jumping around the stage and lying on the floor mid-guitar riff, there was never a dull moment. This sister duo brings something refreshing to the table. Simple guitar and drums, nothing more, nothing less. It pulls you straight back to the early days of bands like The Black Keys, where the music did all the talking. The sister duo created such a wonderful atmosphere where everyone felt included. In many shows, you see a distinct separation between the audience and the artist. Girl Tones gets up close and personal by jumping into the crowd. Creating an immersive experience for both the artists and audience members.

The lighting fit the mood perfectly. Reds, blues, and sharp white lights cut through the room in all the right ways, giving the show that raw rock atmosphere it deserved. Valley Bar itself is tucked in the basement of a building, and truthfully, that setting couldn’t have been a better fit. Exposed ceilings, low lighting, and a tight layout that naturally pulls the crowd together. It has that same feeling of watching your favorite band play in a friend’s parents’ basement back in high school. The venue gives off the true spirit of indie rock without even trying.

The crowd was a great mix of ages, which said a lot about the band’s appeal. This band is not afraid to make mistakes… they roll with it. Their sets are unpredictable and messy, exactly how a rock show should be. From laughing off sound issues to lying on the floor to playing the guitar like they’re the only people in the room. Girl Tones is a show for everyone.
