Joey Valence & Brae brought their Hyperyouth Tour to Atlanta’s The Masquerade. The genre bending duo from Pennsylvania delivered a live show that radiated enough energy and spark to power an entire city and transform a Tuesday night into a party for the ages. Equipped with a catalog built for nonstop movement and a reputation for chaotic fun, they stepped onto the stage ready to deliver a performance to remember. From the first beat drop of “Hyperyouth,” the title track from their new album, it was clear this would not be a night built on standing still.

Even before JVB took the stage, the atmosphere was rowdy and filled with a sense that we were in for a good time. The sold out crowd pressed tightly against the barricade, shoulder to shoulder and ready to erupt. As the house and stage lights dimmed, two silhouettes moved across the stage and a roar filled the room. The bass thumped through the floor as the duo tore across the stage with relentless pace. They launched into hits like “Hooligang,” “Start a Fight,” and “Like a Punk.” The crowd’s intensity increased with each lyric and hard-hitting beat; everyone jumped up and down as mosh pits broke out in the middle of the room. By the time they closed out the performance with their viral hit “Punk Tactics,” the room felt like it was shaking from the combination of electric performance and crowd energy.

As someone who grew up on the sounds of bands like The Beastie Boys, Public Enemy, and Rage Against the Machine, I am glad to see bands like Joey Valence & Brae. They blend hip-hop, hard rock, and punk into genre defying music that speaks to fans of all ages and tastes. I have had the privilege of seeing this dynamic duo several times and even the privilege of meeting them. Let me say the torch has definitely been passed, and they seem more than ready to carry it for years to come.
