PVRIS Blends Oil & Water Alongside Pale Waves and Sizzy Rocket

PVRIS brought their Oil and Water Tour to the Observatory North Park in San Diego on July 10, winding down the three month run. Alongside them were UK’s Pale Waves and Los Angeles’ Sizzy Rocket to complete the roster, showcasing talented women in a predominantly male scene. It was pop punk ladies night. Additionally, all three bands are proud representatives of the LGBTQIA community giving the show a true safe space for all.

Sizzy Rocket (Franny Kovacs)

We were lucky in San Diego to have Sizzy Rocket open, as she had  just re-joined the tour for the final two days. If you didn’t know the name before, it was coming off your lips by the end of the night. The audience was completely enamored within 10 seconds of her taking the stage. She was dressed like a goth goddess with energy and personality that accompanies her ultra punky pop music. Towards the end of her set, she pulled out and ripped on a keytar, which at that point I was just completely taken away. The electrifying performance left the audience chatting and eager to meet her at her merch booth where she asked fans to come  hang after her set.

Pale Waves (Franny Kovacs)

Next up was Pale Waves, a long time icon in the indie music scene hailing all the way from Manchester. The band has slowly been teasing and releasing singles off their upcoming album Smitten which we were incredibly lucky to hear a few tunes off of, including “Perfume” and “Glasgow.” Front-woman Heather Baron-Gracie seamlessly delivered their iconic goth-pop anthems under a dark moody lit stage to contrast their electric performance. Longtime fans loved hearing hits “Television Romance” and “She’s My Religion.”

PVRIS (Franny Kovacs)

When PVRIS took the stage, they opened with their song “Good Enemy” accompanied with fishing red lights and an infectious energy that got the entire room moving. The sound was absolutely phenomenal, hitting the acoustics in the venue perfectly. PVRIS brainchild Lynn Gynn connected with the crowd, frequently visiting each side of the stage to see every one of her fans. Her vocals were utterly breathtaking as she breezed through the angelic higher runs and belted gritty screams fluently like the record. The band played an extensive set, spanning over their entire discography including oldies like “St. Patrick” and “Fire” in addition to new hits “Oil & Water” and “Burn The Witch,” which are off newly released EP The Blob, a collaboration with electronic artist Lights.

As of now, PVRIS has completed all their scheduled headlining tour dates, but they will be heading out in about a month to support the legendary Smashing Pumpkins for seven of their fall tour dates. A new album F.I.L.T.H. is teased on the band’s website with no other information but “coming soon.” You can pre-save the album for streaming services right now on PVRIS.com so you can be the first to hear it once it’s released! If you have the opportunity, don’t miss PVRIS live… you’re guaranteed to channel your inner rockstar by the end of the night.
