KALEO Brings Icelandic Blues Folk to Los Angeles

While you may not recognize KALEO by their name, you definitely will know them by their viral hit, “Way Down We Go.” The track has been blowing up on social media platforms as a popular soundtrack to various Reels and TikToks in topics of all realms. Intrigued by their unique sound, I was thrilled to catch their latest stop in Los Angeles at The Wiltern. Reignwolf amped up the crowd as the opener and had us rocking out, ready for KALEO.

KALEO played two jam-packed nights back-to-back — June 20 and 21st. Kicking off with their recent release, “Lonely Cowboy,” the band had our attention from the start with soulful vocals and an enchanting light production. The 16-song setlist included many songs from their albums A/B and Surface Sounds. The crowd was pleasantly surprised by the band’s cover of Cher’s iconic track “Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)” — a very well-done rendition of the highest compliment. KALEO wrapped up their set with the smash hit “Way Down We Go” before reemerging onstage for a 3-song encore. Sending us off with their newest hit “Rock ‘n’ Roller,” KALEO did not disappoint.

This show was unmatched in every aspect: the ambiance of stage production, mellow and raw sound, and support radiating from the crowd. With these combined elements, KALEO’s performance felt organic and genuine. Leaving this show feeling rejuvenated, I can only hope that the band comes through Los Angeles again on their future tours. Be sure to catch them for a refreshingly profound show next time they play in your city.
