Sleep Theory Brought the Afterglow and Leaves Chicago Glowing

I’ve been to a lot of shows at House of Blues, but this one hit different. Sleep Theory came through Chicago on June 14 and absolutely tore the place up. From the moment they stepped on stage, the energy was undeniable… tight, passionate, and honestly, one of the most dialed-in performances I’ve seen from a rising rock band in a long time.

The room was packed early, Nevertel, Stray View and RobenX opened and got the crowd warmed up, but once Sleep Theory came out, it was game on. Cullen Moore’s vocals were as massive live as they are on record, clean, powerful, and effortless even in the heavy moments. “Fallout” and “Enough” kicked off the set and instantly had the crowd locked in. You could feel the floor bouncing under you.

What really impressed me was how well they moved through their set emotionally. One minute you’re getting hit with a heavy, pulsing breakdown, the next they’re pulling back into something melodic that still somehow hits just as hard with one of their best hits like “Gone or Staying,” which was personally my favorite performance of the night. “Afterglow” and “Gravity” were also clear standouts. Everyone around me was singing every word, and there was a moment in “Numb” where Cullen dropped out and let the crowd take over… goosebumps.

The production was clean, nothing over-the-top, just solid lighting and great sound. The band didn’t need or use too many theatrics besides some CO2 canons… They let the music and the energy do the talking. Every member was locked in. Daniel’s guitar tone was crisp, Ben’s drums hit like a truck, and Paolo’s bass kept everything grounded. You could tell they were having a blast up there, and the crowd fed off it. Sleep Theory’s energy was bar none as they put on a raw and energetic performance for the loyal Chicago fanbase from beginning to end.

They closed with “Parasite” as the encore, and it felt like everyone in that room left part of their voice on the floor.

Be sure to catch Sleep Theory at one of their upcoming tour stops here.
