We recently attended the Second Wind Tour in Houston and got the chance to see Sombr open up the show — we even got to snag some after show portraits. Well, we are back again with Sombr to chat with him more in depth about his music, his tour must-haves, and his plans for the future for April’s digital cover story!

We got to see you when you opened for Daniel Seavey on the Second Wind Tour in Houston! How has it been traveling the US and bringing your music to new audiences?

IT HAS BEEN SUCH AN AMAZING EXPERIENCE. I AM SO GRATEFUL TO DANIEL FOR THE OPPORTUNITY. HE IS SO TALENTED AND IT HAS BEEN SO GREAT BEING ON TOUR WITH HIM.  I LOVE THAT GUY.

And along those same lines, what is a tour must have for you? (Mine are tootsie rolls and chomp sticks)

PIZZA, THRIFT STORES, ACOUSTIC GUITARS!

Next month, you’ll be heading over to the UK and Europe to open for Nessa Barrett — What are you most excited for when you go abroad?

I HAVE BEEN WANTING TO TOUR IN EUROPE AND THE UK FOR A LONG TIME NOW. I’M SO EXCITED TO VISIT NEW CITIES AND PERFORM FOR NEW AUDIENCES AND  I’M SO GRATEFUL TO NESSA FOR BRINGING ME ALONG! I CAN’T WAIT!  I’M ALSO DOING 4 HEADLINE SHOWS WHILE ACROSS THE POND…

Now, you recently collaborated with Rachel Chinouriri on a new version of “All I Asked” and it is so good! How did that collab come to be?

I’VE LOVED THAT SONG SINCE I FIRST HEARD IT, AND WHEN SHE ASKED ME TO DO A REMIX, I WAS MORE THAN WILLING AND READY.  LOVE, LOVE, LOVE ALL AROUND.

Are there any artists that you hope to collaborate with in the future?

BON IVER, CIGARETTES AFTER SEX, BILLIE EILISH, PHOEBE BRIDGERS, THOM YORKE/RADIOHEAD AND JEFF BUCKLEY IF HE WERE ALIVE.

We got to hear “undressed” the day before it released to the public and we knew that it was going to be a hit. Can you tell us a little bit about the writing process for that song? How did it come about?

AS USUAL, IT WAS 2 AM.  THAT IS WHEN THE INSPIRATION ALWAYS HITS.  I WAS THINKING ABOUT SOMEONE WHO HAD BEEN VERY… FAMILIAR TO ME.  AND HOW SWEET IT WOULD BE IF SHE WERE WITH ME AT THAT MOMENT.  AND HOW I DIDN’T REALLY WANT TO LEARN TO BE WITH SOMEONE ELSE.  AND THEN THE MUSIC SWEPT OVER ME AND I STARTED RECORDING IDEAS, AND IT CAME TOGETHER SUPER FAST. AND WITHIN JUST A COUPLE OF WEEKS WE RELEASED THE SONG AND NOW IT’S FOR EVERYONE!  CRAZY!

Since it’s different for everyone, we are curious to know how you prefer to write songs! Are you someone who likes to go into a session with or without other songwriters and have a concept or do you like to be completely alone and use the time as more of a diary/journaling session and just see where the pen takes you? Or is it a mix of a variety of ways?

I HAVE WRITTEN MOST OF MY SONGS ALONE. THEY COME FROM A VERY PERSONAL PLACE. I ALWAYS WORK ON NEW MUSIC LATE AT NIGHT WHEN ALL IS QUIET AND I CAN FOCUS UNINTERRUPTED.

Last question — Other than the UK/European tour you are about to embark on, is there anything else you can tell your fans and the First III No Flash readers about your upcoming plans?

MORE TOURING!  NORTH AMERICA, JAPAN, AND MORE, MORE, MORE. CAN’T WAIT TO SEE EVERYONE’S BEAUTIFUL FACES!

We are so thankful that we got to sit down and chat with Sombr about his music, touring, and who he wants to collaborate with. He is such a kind and sweet soul and we cannot wait to see where his music takes him. Also, we definitely want to visit a thrift store with him in the near future!
